If you live in the Hamilton Ontario area you have probably heard or have been affected by the so called doctor shortage. In June of 2016 the Hamilton Spectator published an article about the shortage of doctors and about Jane Walker the doctor recruiter for Hamilton. Below you will find my letter to the editor.

We don’t need more doctors, we need a new approach to the health care system!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Maybe Jane Walker should be looking for qualified health care providers regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act including naturopaths and homeopaths and have them covered by OHIP. People would then have OHIP coverage and access to health and wellness information, which in the long run would serve them better than a prescription for pharmaceuticals.

The majority of people don’t know that homeopathic medicine was the first regulated medicine in Ontario, yes, before pharmaceutical medicine. Millions and millions of people around the world use homeopathic medicine instead of or in conjunction with pharmaceutical medicine. More and more people are turning to a complementary approach to health care, shouldn’t our health care system also reflect those changes? We pay for our health care system with our tax dollars thus shouldn’t we have that choice?

It’s not rocket science. The current health care system is expensive and has its challenges. It’s time for a change.
